Carpenter is a good teacher

I used Reading Lessons in my "Introduction to Literature" course this year and my students loved it. Carpenter is a witty, playful, but PLAINSPOKEN guide through the labyrinths of contemporary theory. (Anyone that's tried to tackle Lacan or Derrida on their own knows how crazy-making they can be.) The chapters on psychoanalysis and gender studies are especially strong; after reading them, students should be ready to contribute something significant to the dialogue. I also recommend the closing chapter on hypertext. Carpenter's a good teacher.

I must have somehow managed to pre-scan the best parts of this promising 300 page body language book before buying it, because it turns out to being mostly pretty basic absolute beginner's stuff! It is a merely good book which was previously released in 2003 with a rather dull title "The Book of Tells" and now re-released with a sexy marketing spin & recommended as a "brilliant study" by Desmond Morris!

Fairytale Not Required is contemporary romance at its best. Filled with raw emotion and realism, we easily become absorbed in the passion, drama and romance of its two protagonists. There is no holding back when we become swept away by the tidal wave of romance palpable in this amazing contemporary read.

In Fairytale Not Required, we delve into the fiery and vibrant world of Astrid, a character whom I was immediately drawn to in No Knight Needed. Stephanie Rowe has successfully created a strong female protagonist in Astrid, one who is so unbelievably complex and realistic that when her back story unfolded I was completely immersed in her story. And what a heartbreaking story it is!

Very early on in the novel, we are held captive by the delicious introduction of the newest addition to Birch Crossing, Jason. Jason, much like Astrid, is an equally complex individual; although one that carries demons of his own. It is when these two amazing, complicated characters' lives become entwined that the real passion and drama begins.

Stephanie knocks it out of the park with this one! Fairytale Not Required has everything you could possible want in a romance...
Amazing characters that are both trying to run from or forget their pasts only to run right smack dab into each other. Jason is ready and willing to open his heart to Astrid, but Astrid has her doubts about anything good actually being able to happen to her. Jason is determined to convince her otherwise.
This is a must read story that will grip your heart and have you staying up way past bedtime trying to finish.

This is a quick paced story that grabs a hold of you right from the start and won't let go. It's about two people that have both been hurt very deeply and need to learn how to trust and not judge each other by someone else's actions. They also have to learn about themselves and face their own demons.
I am very taken with Stephanie Rowe's writing and I haven't found any of her books that I don't love.

Good News - God is still in control

He knows how to take good things and make them better but more importantly He know how to take the hurts, aches, and pains of this life and turn them into His perfect plan for our lives. Sometimes we don't see it, but He's there. At each turn, each intersection of our lives He's there. We just need to be reassured that He has our best interest at heart. How do we know? He sent His only son, Jesus, to show us just how much He loves us. A great reminder to those who don't and those that do place their faith in the one true God.

About the Author
Frank Doyle (November 17, 1917 - April 3, 1996) was the head writer for Archie Comics for over thirty years. He wrote over 10,000 stories featuring the Archie characters. Artist Dan DeCarlo referred to Doyle as "the best". In 1951 he joined Archie Comics as a writer. Doyle wrot the majority of stories for such important Archie titles as "Archie" and "Betty and Veronica" and also began writing many of the stories for adventure-themed titles. According to DeCarlo, Doyle did "all the writing" for the early issues of She's Josie. Doyle wrote the first issue of the Archie title "That Wilkin Boy" and wrote the debut stories for several Archie supporting characters, including the first appearance of Cheryl Blossom.

This is a nice collectors item that no doubt will be worth something someday. It's a collection of the "best" Josie and the Pussycat stories that have appeared in Archie Comics over the years. It features the very first story with Josie, Melody, Alexander, Cabot, Pepper and Albert titled "A Gym Dandy" from the comic "She's Josie" #12, February 1963. They also have little samples from when Alan M. and Alexandra first appeared in the stories, and when Valerie also first appeared. It goes through their music career as a band and their various friendships. It was nice to relive these stories. One of my all time favorite stories was not in here though, it was titled "The Ghostly Guardian" which appeared in the October 1990 issue of Betty & Veronica #21 Double Digest, where the gang visits an old mansion and discover a hidden passage, and a treasure. Overall this is a good paperback to own!

Overview collection only includes 1 "Best" story.

Instead of being called the Best of Josie and the Pussycats, this should be called Introducing Josie and the Pussycats.

This collection gives us several 1 page First Appearances of characters, and is an overview of the series.

The Best of the Josie and the Pussycats comics are the long Adventure stories that ran from issues #57 through around #72. This collection only includes "The Ghost Of Dark Valley Manor" from issue #57.

It does not include Voodoo Swamp from #58, Palm Trees and Pussycats from #59, The Mummy's Kiss from #60, The Ghostly Guardian from #61 which has a very dark Cabin In The Woods/Evil Dead feeling to it. It also does not include The Hooded Horror of Haunted Hill from #62, What Kind of Ghoul Am I? from #64, My Brother's Keeper from #65, The Swamp Mist Monster from #67, The Falcon's Claw from #68 or Vengeance From The Crypt from #72.

The adventure from the cartoon crept its way into the comics and this collection only features 1 of those great stories.

Very Good Collection

I liked the cartoons but never read the comics really until I checked out the one volume in my library -- a fairly recent gimmick sort of thing where Archie and Valerie hook up. But, thanks to cheap Amazon remainders, I found this collection for real cheap. The copy itself was in very good condition. It also was an enjoyable read -- well drawn, interesting in citing various "firsts" (including the apparently not fully explained skunk stripe in Alexandra's hair) and fun/overall well written story lines. There are a few page excerpts but also around ten or so full length stories. It's a good introduction as well as a nice collection for fans.

Is book is great for beginners like me. I likes that there was a lot of info on how the seeds germinate. The only problem though was that some of the equipment listed on there that is needed is extremely expensive.

It explores their lives before imprisonment, enabling the reader to understand their incarceration within the context of childhood and adolescent experiences, domestic violence, alcohol and drug abuse, low education levels, and poor work histories. Lori B. Girshick relates the prisoners' views of doing time, the criminal justice system, and their own rehabilitation. She also interviews family members, friends, and social service providers to show how support networks function or fail.

Girshick argues convincingly that the treatment of women in society creates circumstances that lead some of them to break the law, and she makes specific recommendations for policies that address the need for social change and for community programs designed to deter crime.

Though the women's prison population is small, it is growing, and the needs of incarcerated women can be quite different from men. Girshick (sociology, Warren Wilson Coll.) interviewed 40 prisoners at the Black Mountain minimum security prison in North Carolina, as well as members of their families and prison staff and volunteers, to learn more about the women's prison experience. She discusses the women's backgrounds, their concerns about their families, the support services they need in order to make their lives better, and their hopes for the future. It is especially interesting to learn why the volunteers decided to become involved with the prisoners and what feelings they have toward the inmates. Though Girshick could have expanded her suggestions on how to improve the prison experience and on ways communities are succeeding in keeping women out of the prison system, her book makes an interesting addition to criminology, women's studies, and sociology collections.ADanna C. LORI B. GIRSHICK has dedicated her life to working for social justice and ending inequalities. A nationally known trainer in LGBT domestic and sexual violence and LGBT sensitivity, she is author of three books, Soledad Women: Wives of Prisoners Speak Out (1996), No Safe Haven: Stories of Women in Prison (Northeastern, 1999) and Woman-to-Woman Sexual Violence: Does She Callit Rape? (NUP, 2002). Currently she is a professor in Sociology at Chandler-Gilbert Community College in Chandler, Arizona. JAMISON GREEN is an educator, policy consultant, and corporate diversity trainer specializing in transgender and transsexual issues. He serves on the boards of directors of the Transgender Law & Policy Institute and the World Professional Association for Transgender Health. He is also a member of the advisory boards for the Institute for Intersex Children and the Law and the Center for Research on Gender and Sexuality at San Francisco State University. He is the author of Becoming a Visible Man (2004).

It's a WORKbook, not a TEXTbook.

I just got the product today and I can say that I am kind of disappointed. I thought this was going to be a textbook but it's more like a workbook. This would've been great if I didn't RENT the book. I don't suggest renting this book. Instead if I knew this was going to be a workbook I would've BOUGHT it. I wasn't expecting to be able to write in it, I thought it was just reading. Also I found pages where other people wrote in it. If it was a textbook I would have given it 5 stars but it's like a workbook where you actually do WORK instead of reading like a textbook.

Errors, Omissions, and Mistakes

I am very disappointed with this textbook. The reason being there are numerous errors throughout the entire book. As this is a medical terminology text created for a college level course to teach aspiring medical professionals, it's almost appalling the standard they have held themselves to: LOW. They explicitly state in the text the potential dangers that can occur from misunderstanding or incorrectly communicating medical terms. Yet that is exactly what occurs within the book itself!
To begin, answers for the exercises in the back of the book have numerous mistakes (8 in chp 2 alone!). The mistakes include entirely wrong answers and incomplete answers, mostly just completely wrong though. In addition, within the text itself are missing vocabulary words that show up as answers for the exercises. Also, in one instance they were claiming the suffix "-osis" had two different meanings. Talk about confusing! I shouldn't have to double check answers and meanings to words on the internet!
If I can make a slightly cynical comment, it would appear that the editors' only past experiences prior to this textbook were working for high school newspapers!
