About the Author
Greg Pearson has spent his career in newspapers, writing and editing for the Manchester (Conn.) Herald, the Holyoke (Mass.) Transcript-Telegram and the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel. He grew up in Durham, Connecticut, where he found out about the Red Sox shortly after learning to read. He and his wife, Michele, live in Wauwatosa, Wisconsin.

A Fun Read for Fans and Non Fans

This is a great oral history for baseball fans, by Red Sox fans. There are many touching and interesting stories from fans about their relationship with the Red Sox, but also about there relationships with each other. The crux is that the Red Sox are not just a team, but a connection point that people can use to form new bonds and keep established ones. The author strives to show how those connections are functions, freely made and fresh.
The fans featured include young and old, celebrity and not. The style of writing is interview with recap, so you feel the interviewers presence, but you don't feel that the writer has influenced the story told.

A walk down memory lane

It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. "Fenway Fanatics" chronicles the highs and lows of Red Sox fans everywhere. These are the people from my hometown, the kindred souls of Red Sox nation that I met while living in the south and mountain west, and encountered travelling throughout the world. It brings back so many memories and perfectly describes my first trip to Fenway, it's so green, the grass, the wall, the seats! "Pandemonium" of 1967. "Long drive. Left Field. If it stays fair, it's gone. Home Run!" of 1975. These words still echo in my ears to this day. Curt Gowdy, Ned Martin, Ken Coleman, transistor radios, it's got it all. A walk down memory lane.

This book, through its' many stories, reveals what compels many of us to be such dedicated fans of our favorite team. It profiles a diverse cross-section of Red Sox Nation. The book is very entertaining, thanks to Greg Pearson's writing style and his ability to weave these stories together to show what is special to many about being a Red Sox fan for life. This book offers a great way for anyone to convey, to family or friends, why this team has such a hold on them. The crisply written chapters make easy to pick and read at any time, but hard to put down. A great addition to any Red Sox fan's library.
